Be Zealous about...pancakes???

Check out this article sent to me by my friend John. I thought it was pretty funny! I got it right after reading a four page article on George Whitfield, who was so zealous for God and preaching his word that he suffered incredible physical ailments but remained faithful. This article made me think of how tragic it is that many people outside of the church are so zealous about the wrong things , and how far too few within the church have zeal and expression of the right ones?

While the article is most likely made up (it is from The Onion afterall), I too was struck by how trivial things of this world become so important so as to blind us from what really matters. It may not be pancakes and syrup that offends us and captures our energies for days and weeks and even a lifetime but simple things like taking on the offenses of others or feeling slighted by your pastor or family member. May God help us to always be focused on Jesus Christ and what is important; His cause: making disciples.

Imagine if the guy would focus half the energy he has for pancakes and shift it towards the hungry, the poor, widows and or orphans.

I saw another article that made me ask the same question a while back when the wayward whales were swimming around in the bay of San Francisco. A man said he drove all night to come see the whales. I asked my wife if she thought he would do the same to feed the homeless..... I have to doubt he would.

Well, I have to say that I was pretty upset the other day when I was at IHOP, went to pour blueberry syrup on my pancakes, and instead butter pecan syrup came out. Tsk! Tsk! Can you believe that?! It was almost like a direct attack from satan himself. I knew that my life at IHOP would never be the same.

Misplace zeal or not,I thought that the article was hilarious and probably some kind scheme by IHOP to actually promote sale.
If the treatise was in fact something other than a hoax, I can only pray that in the "reformed IHOP" there might be a table set aside for the homeless, where they can come in and eat free, unadulterated pancakes :).

p.s. I prefer my pancakes adulterated!
